It is the typical town of the Marche region and, besides being the chief town of its province, it is also called “Athens of Marche region” thanks to the presence of ancient and prestigious cultural institutions that have life ever since. Macerata is also the seat of the ancient university, it is provided by one of the most important public libraries with the largest book collection of the region, the town where the XVI century literary accademy is still working and it is known as “the town of the music” thanks to the famous “Sferisterio Opera Festival”.
Known as “the town of poetry”, Recanati is famous to be the home town of Giacomo Leopardi where the so called “Leopardi’s sites”feature the old town’s layout. Recanati is also the same town where another star of Italian and international scene was born: the tenor Beniamino Gigli. He treaded the stages of the most important world theatres thanks to his extremely melodious voice Lastly, Recanati is the place where it is possible to admire the masterpieces of Lorenzo Lotto in the town’s museum.
The castle of Loro Piceno is situated along the ancient roman road of Salaria Gallica that, even nowadays, connects the old roman town of Asculum with the Adriatic Coast. The former roman military post, in the middle ages, was turned into a fortified village belonging to Brunforte family and it is, now, one of the typical village of the province of Macerata. Loro Piceno is well known for the local mulled wine production and its old town is enriched by interesting monuments telling us thousand year history.
It was a very important roman town and, in the present days, it is included among the most significant archeological sites of the region. The roman town and the medieval one intersect and overlap suggesting us unusual tours in order to find out our complex local history.
Stories of battles, mercenary captains, tyrants, beatified persons and miracles and then imperial troops on their way to Bourbon kingdom are told! Mogliano is a lovely village situated between the provinces of Fermo and Macerata and it is renowned for the wickerwork and the local high quality oil production. Like in other Marche region’s towns, also Mogliano has its treasure of art well exhibited in the local museum of religious art.
San Severino Marche is a charming town situated on the high potenza river valley and its origins date back to the roman town of Septempeda whose ruins are visible in the valley. San Severino is the hometown of the famous researcher and physician Bartolomeo Eustachio and it is enriched by a beautiful old town that is perched on the Montenero hillside where the XIV century towers feature its skyline.
Known as “the balcony of the Sibillini mountains”, San Ginesio is a small medieval village overlooking the Sibillini mountain range. Its old town is one of the most ancient of the Marche.
Small inland town located in the province of Macerata, Treia is very famous thanks to its traditional sport: “Gioco del Pallone al Bracciale”, very similar to the Spanish pelota sport, reenacted every year by the local people.
A few kilometres away from the town of Macerata is Montecassiano, the small medieval town placed on the top of the hill whose unique skyline is marked by its bell towers and imposing defensive walls.
On the top of the hill, the town of Montelupone boasts a well-preserved town centre surrounded by defensive walls and bastions..
Known as “the pearl of the Sibillini mountains”, the town of Visso is a very ancient medieval town that integrates the architectural and natural aspects in a harmonious way.
Small inland town of the province of Macerata, Cingoli enjoys a spectacular panoramic position thanks to which it is called “the balcony of the Marche”.
It is the home town of Verdicchio wine production and ENI Group [National Hydrocarbons Company] founder Enrico Mattei. Matelica still preserves a considerable and large archaeological heritage of its Roman period and a conspicuous and inspired local art production that testifies to the importance of the town over the centuries and where the surrounding landscape’s beauty is a wondrous result.
Small village overlooking the Chienti river valley, the town centre of Montecosaro was developed all around the main tower of the former castle, that is the one architectural element testifying to its historical memory.
